Jesus dares us to live his passion. Jeremiah says write the covenant on our hearts. To obey Jesus is not passive submission. Actively listening to Jesus makes us more than we can chooser imagine. ~ Fr. Matt
Being lifted up (hypsothenai) has a double meaning for the author of John’s gospel. Jesus was lifted up on the cross as a sacrifice to death and at his resurrection Jesus was lifted up from the grave into eternal life. ~ Fr. Matt
The Ten Commandments are meant to tell us who we are. We are a people set aside and chosen. Embracing the law is a means of knowing more deeply the God who loves us with a jealous passion. ~ Fr. Matt

Lent is more than simply a call to give up creature comforts. Lent invites us to confront our vulnerability and embrace our brokenness. ~ Fr. Matt
How can unfulfilling work or retirement bring us meaning and joy? We have a covenantal relationship with God. All work is part of the process of redemption. We bring the sacred to the most secular situations. Work can be an effective witness that evangelizes not by word of mouth but by example. ~ Fr. Matt
We are challenged to believe that Jesus continues to rout out the evils of our present age namely poverty, sickness, greed, hatred, indifference, overindulgence, etc. His ministry becomes our own. I believe Lord, help my unbelief. ~ Fr. Matt
Our environment is consumed with money, our culture with political affiliation, our world with nationalism, our scene with entertainment and marketing. We are baptized into Christ Jesus and not to any of the above. ~ Fr. Matt
