Click here for daily readings Today’s first reading recounts the great event of Pentecost. Pentecost is often called the birthday of the Church. What does that mean? Before he ascended into heaven, Jesus said to his apostles: “stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high” (Lk 24:49). Christ made it clear that without the Holy Spirit, his apostles could not do the work he did. They could not grow in virtue. They could not accomplish the mission he gave them. It was only after Pentecost that the Church was able to live, thrive, and grow….
